US SMBs ESTIMATED TO PURCHASE 21 PERCENT OF ULTRABOOK™ UNITS FROM RETAIL STORES, IMPORTANT FOR PHYSICAL RETAIL TO MARKET ULTRABOOK™ TO SMALL BUSINESSES

San Jose, CA, May 1, 2012: Techaisle's multi-country study on SMB Ultrabook™ adoption reveals that within the US, 21 percent of units are likely to be purchased from electronic retail and office products stores by SMBs. It is important for physical retail stores to market Ultrabook™ to not only the consumers but also small businesses.

It is quite clear from the SMB surveys that Ultrabook™ has the features and functionalities that appeal to SMBs; however, it is easier for SMBs to grasp the usefulness of these features by experiencing them in a retail store. SMBs want to be confident about the PC they are buying based on their own knowledge and knowing how it fits their needs. Nevertheless, it also poses a problem for retailers as they become unintended showrooms providing only the experience but not the price advantage of online retailers.

SMBs are quite adept at doing extensive online research but they also would like to do physical comparisons in terms of weight, look & feel, and interact with a sales person. Specifically, the early adopters for whom price point is not a major barrier are looking for Ultrabook availability from their favorite channels.

Although, over 20 models have been introduced in the US, SMBs are still expecting Ultrabooks to be available from their preferred PC vendors at affordable pricing. 

It is also important for PC vendors and retailers to understand that there are striking differences between SMBs planning to use Ultrabook™ as "Additions" and those planning to use them as "Replacements". Techaisle survey shows that "Additional" Ultrabook™ business buyers have a higher installed base of desktops than "Replacement" buyers.  SMBs planning to use Ultrabook™ as "Replacements" have a higher percent of employees that are mobile and prefer different features. Early adopter verticals are manufacturing for "additions" and financial services for replacements.
