72 PERCENT OF SMBs SAY THAT IT VENDORS SHOULD SIMPLIFY TECHNOLOGY; 54 PERCENT MENTION THAT THEIR TECHNOLOGY PAIN POINTS HAVE INCREASED IN THE LAST THREE YEARS
San Jose, CA, July 17, 2012: In a recent Techaisle survey, 72 percent of SMBs said that IT Vendors should simplify technology and 54 percent mentioned that their technology pain points had increased in the last 3 years.
In fact, for 39 percent of SMBs, technology pain points have surpassed business pain points (which have remained the same in the last 3 years). With the availability of many different technology options SMBs are being forced to spend valuable time in getting their arms around which technology to use and from whom. 44 percent of SMBs find that there are too many vendors for different types of technologies contributing to the increase in technology related pain points. These SMBs for are looking unbiased advice on technology that is easy to understand and simple to adopt.
To sort through the available options SMBs are relying on their own Internet research, focused advice from IT consultants, resellers, channel partners and increasingly through direct contact with IT vendors.
61 percent of SMBs said that they are ignoring some technologies even if they may be relevant for their businesses. SMBs are finding cloud computing, virtualization, business intelligence, remote managed services and marketing automation among the top 5 technologies most complex to understand. Mid-market businesses also consider big data and data centers to be relevant but also difficult to grasp.
The survey has revealed the following top 5 technology marketing buzzwords that SMBs are tired of hearing from IT vendors: "Out-of-the-box", "Next generation", "Best-in-class", "Mission-critical" and "Solution driven".
Nevertheless, SMBs are committed to using IT more than ever to grow their business and reduce their operating costs. Among the top challenges that SMB ITDMs are facing in 2012 are budget constraints, implementing business continuity, cloud computing, modernizing applications and mobile device management.
